What constitutes a good website? - October 13, 2011

An effective website needs to be designed attractively, navigated easily, and updated consistently. Before design can even begin, the objective and the audience have to be clearly established.

Layout, fonts, and choice of colors should be planned in the beginning stages. All sites do not need to be the “hippest” to be effective. Flash, animation, and dazzling scripts are not always necessary. There are other ways of creating interaction with the visitors.

The ability to navigate easily through the site is almost more important than the design. Links should be visible on all pages and easily accessible. The flow of the pages needs to be organized in a logical manner. It is similar to going to the grocery store to buy cat food and discover it has been moved to the cosmetic isle. It makes no sense and very few people will take the time to find it.

There is nothing worse than an outdated site. The internet is ALL about instant information. Providing a constant flow of information to the visitor will keep them coming back for more. Customers’ needs keep changing and you must be able to have information that can excite and educate them on a regular basis.

Most importantly, a good web site will build brand awareness, credibility, customer loyalty and be something that your organization can be proud of.
